FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Welcome to the Inky Brushes FAQ page! Here you'll find answers to common questions about my prints, original artworks, materials, and services. If you have any additional inquiries, please don't hesitate to contact me.

1. How do I purchase an original painting?

I release new works to my mailing list a few times a year, usually as a series. Single works also come available from time to time. In all cases, the mailing list is notified before hand so collectors can be ready for secure a piece at its release date and time.

2. What is a Giclée Print?

A giclée print is a high-quality fine art reproduction created using advanced inkjet printing technology. The term "giclée" (pronounced “zhee-clay”) originates from the French word "gicler," meaning "to spray." This meticulous process involves spraying microscopic droplets of archival-grade ink onto premium art paper, resulting in exceptional detail, vibrant colours, and smooth gradients that closely mirror the original artwork.

3. What materials are used in your prints?

We use only the finest materials to ensure each print is a true reflection of the original artwork:

  • Paper: I researched far and wide, and tested lots of papers before I found the perfect ones for my prints. I am proud to say that my prints are crafted on premium Hahnemühle papers, including German Etching and Photo Rag. Hahnemühle has been producing fine art papers since 1584, combining centuries-old craftsmanship with modern innovation. These heavyweight, archival papers feature rich, velvety textures and a luxurious feel that enhance the depth and detail of each print. The natural warm white shade adds character to the artwork, reminiscent of traditional etchings and lithographs.
  • Inks: My prints are made with archival-quality pigment inks that are fade-resistant and designed to last a lifetime. These inks provide a wide colour gamut, ensuring that every hue and subtle nuance of the original piece is faithfully captured.

4. Are your prints environmentally friendly?

Yes, sustainability is important to me. The printing and shipping processes are carbon-neutral.

I collaborate with professional printing services committed to reducing their environmental impact by offsetting carbon emissions and utilising eco-friendly practices. By choosing these prints, you're supporting environmentally responsible art production.

5. How long will my print last?

When properly cared for, your print can last for decades without any noticeable fading or degradation. The combination of archival-quality inks and acid-free, lignin-free Hahnemühle paper provides exceptional longevity. To maximise the lifespan of your print:

  • Display away from direct sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can affect any artwork over time.
  • Use UV-protective glass or acrylic: If framing, consider materials that offer additional protection against UV rays.
  • Avoid humidity and extreme temperatures: Display your print in a stable environment to prevent damage.

6. How should I care for my print?

To ensure your print remains in pristine condition:

  • Handle with clean hands: Oils and dirt can transfer to the paper.
  • Frame promptly: Framing protects the print from dust, moisture, and physical damage.
  • Use archival materials: When framing, opt for acid-free mats and backing boards.
  • Avoid hanging in damp areas: Places like bathrooms may have high humidity levels.

7. Do you offer framing services?

I do not have the capacity or expertise to offer framing services or recommend specific framers. I suggest collaborating with a reputable local framer or seeking recommendations and reviews from fellow collectors or local galleries. They can provide expert guidance to ensure your print is beautifully presented and preserved.

8. How are the prints shipped?

Prints are carefully packaged to ensure they arrive safely:

  • Protective packaging: Each print is wrapped in acid-free tissue paper.
  • Rigid mailers or tubes: Depending on the size, prints are shipped in sturdy, flat mailers or tubes to prevent bending.
  • Carbon-neutral shipping: Shipping is carried out through carbon-neutral services, minimising environmental impact.
  • Tracking information: You'll receive a tracking number once your order is dispatched, allowing you to monitor its journey to you.

9. Do the prints come with a Certificate of Authenticity?

Yes, each print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity. This certificate includes details about the print, such as the title, edition number (if applicable), and my signature, ensuring the print's provenance.

10. Can I order a custom sized print?

I create limited edition prints in sizes that best capture the essence of each artwork. Custom sizes for prints are not available, as altering the dimensions can affect the integrity and composition of the original piece.

11. Do you accept commissions for original paintings?

Yes, I occasionally accept commissions for original paintings of particular sizes. If you're interested in commissioning a custom piece tailored to your preferences, or in working on a brand partnership with me, please contact me with details about your vision. We'll discuss your ideas, and I'll provide information on availability, timelines, and pricing.
